Incessant rains in Kerala-Karnataka: Farmers in Tiruppur and Palladam to discuss reducing broiler production by 25 percent

While the broiler chickens could not be sent for sale to other states due to heavy rains, the prices of broiler chicken has fallen drastically and the farmers have been hit hard. They are considering reducing broiler production by 25 percent until the situation improves.

Tirupur: Farmers in Palladam in Tirupur are considering reducing production by 25 per cent due to the steep fall in the price of broiler chicken.

There are more than 3,000 broiler farms in and around Palladam in Tirupur district. Through this, 10 lakh broiler chickens are produced daily and sent to various districts of Tamil Nadu and other states including Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka for sale.

Depending on the consumption of broiler chicken, its selling price is fixed and announced on a daily basis by the Broiler Coordination Committee at Palladam. Due to incessant rains in several states, including Kerala and Karnataka, it is not possible to send broiler chickens due to which the consumption of broiler chickens has come down and the broiler chickens are stagnating.

Moreover, the price of broiler chicken has also fallen sharply due to low consumption of broiler chicken. The procurement price of broiler chicken has come down from Rs 100 per kg on July 9 to Rs 66 today. With broiler production costing between Rs 80 and Rs 90 per kg, farmers have been hit hard by this steep fall in prices.

They are considering reducing broiler production by 25 per cent until the situation improves.
