The Coimbatore police today conducted a raid to check whether tobacco and gutka products banned by the government were being sold in the district.
Coimbatore: Strict action is being taken to stop the sale of gutka tobacco products banned by the Tamil Nadu government in Coimbatore district.
In particular, if anyone violates the prohibitory orders and indulge in the sale of gutka, for the first time sellers, Rs.5,000 for the second time Rs.10,000 and for the third time the shop will be locked and sealed. Penalty and sealing work are being carried out.
In this situation, the police along with the officials of the Food Safety Department patrolled the entire Coimbatore city today. It was found that 10 boxes of gutka tobacco products were concealed and sold. Subsequently, a fine of Rs.50,000 was collected from each of the 10 shops at the rate of Rs.5,000 each.
The officials also warned of strict action if they indulged in the sale of gutka again.
