Coimbatore Book Festival 2022 begins at CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex

The Book Fair comprises 250 stalls, features 150 publishers and 2 lakh books, with the city's leading publishers participating.


The Coimbatore Book Festival began at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex on Friday amidst good responses from the public, especially school children. The Book Festival will continue till the end of the month.

The Book Fair comprises 250 stalls, features 150 publishers and 2 lakh books. Leading publishers in Coimbatore like Vijaya Publications, Sapna among others are participating in the Book Fair. At least eight writers under the age of 30 are scheduled to release their books at this fair.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Myilsamy, District Director, Rotary International 3201 said, "The idea behind inviting school children to this Coimbatore Book Festival is to help them unlock a new world. Career-building and character-building are equally important for children's growth, and this fair will strive to create more readers in our district."

Vijay Anand who is chairing the Coimbatore Book Festival added that 47 Rotary Clubs of Coimbatore have joined for the second time as organizing partners will bring 1000 kids whose essays have been shortlisted to the Book Fair, and the best among them, in three different categories will be rewarded. "This activity will take place on July 27, on the death anniversary of Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. Actor and comedian Dhamu who is a huge admirer of Dr. Kalam will address the students on this particular day and motivate them. Rotary on its part will also provide books worth Rs. 5000 to nearly 100 Rotary-adopted schools, on that day. Cultural events and competitions will take place for school and college students separately, and Director Bharathi Raja will be there on July 27 to award the prizes," added Vijay.

On the penultimate day of the Book Fair, the Fair will be opened exclusively to the workforce of Coimbatore. All staff from various companies and organizations can take part in the Fair on this day. B

Books can be availed at 10-20 percent discount at the fair.The last edition of the Book Fair recorded a sale of Rs. 1.5 crore and this year's edition is expected to generate nearly Rs. 3 crore-worth of sales.
