Police Commissioner V Balakrishnan has ordered the City Police to further intensify checking and patrolling to control the sale of ganja chocolates in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: Police have arrested a man from Rajasthan for selling ganja chocolates to college students in Coimbatore.
Due to a large number of colleges in Coimbatore city, the sale of ganja and narcotic tablets targeting students and youth is on the rise. Even though the police have come down hard on drug peddlers and drug smuggling, the circulation of ganja among students in the city has not been curbed.
Drug peddlers have found innovative ways to package ganja and are now selling ganja in the form of chocolates in Coimbatore which has created panic among the public, especially parents.
R S Puram police have arrested a man for selling ganja chocolates for Rs. 100. The police had received a tip-off that ganja chocolates were being sold in the R S Puram area. Immediately, Assistant Police Commissioners Manikandan and Velmurugan, Inspector Anandajothi and special forces conducted a raid at the spot.
Chetan (30), who was selling ganja chocolates was caught red-handed.

40 kg of ganja chocolates were seized from him.

During the investigation, it was revealed that he was from Rajasthan and was running a tea stall on Rangey Gounder street in Coimbatore as well as an electrical shop in Kovilpalayam area. The police are on the lookout for those who are part of a larger drug network, especially five more people who are involved in the sale of ganja chocolates.
According to doctors, people who consume cannabis chocolate, apart from getting addicted to the drug, also suffer from various physical ailments, including kidney and liver disorders.
