District Collector announces 6th Book Festival in Coimbatore

The Book Festival is to be held from July 22 to 31 at the CODISSIA campus.



Coimbatore: A press conference was held at the District Collector's office in Coimbatore in which the District Collector, G S Sameeran announced that the 6th Book Festival will be held in Coimbatore for 10 days from July 22 to 31 after a two-year gap, owing to the pandemic.



CODISSIA and South Indian Publishers Association jointly organized the 6th Book Festival. "More than 300 publishers have set up various halls in this festival. 1 lakh students will participate in the event. One of the events will be to have 5000 students recite the 'Thirukkural' which will be held on July 28. Arrangements have been made to host art programs in the evening on all days. Three young creators (Nizhali, Suresh Pradeep, Vadivarasu) will be given awards, this year, while the Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to historian Gudavail Subramaniam.

The Rotary Club will provide free books by giving special coupons to winners of the essay competition. Arrangements have been made to run Government buses in the area for this event. Admission to the event is free, while nearly 2,00,000 new books will be featured in it. The event will be held under strict Covid protocol of compulsory masks and social distancing," stated the District Collector.



CODISSIA Book Festival Coordinator, Vijay Anand, stated that the Young Author awards will be presented to students, along with Rs.25000. He also added that in the essay competition organized by the Rotary, 3500 essays had been received and 1000 people will be selected and given a coupon worth Rs. 200. Prizes will be awarded to the top three students in English and Tamil.

A program will be held in honour of the late Abdul Kalam in which Abdul Kalam's disciple Tamu will participate. On July 30, programs have been arranged for workers only.
