Intensive Diarrhoea Prevention Camp underway in Coimbatore from July 18 - 30

The camp is observed for two weeks with the aim of completely preventing children under the age of five from dying of diarrhoea.


Coimbatore: An intensive Diarrhoea Prevention Camp is being held in the Coimbatore district from July 18 to July 30.

In a press release, the District Deputy Director of Health, Dr. P Aruna said, "The Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine is conducting an 'Intensive Diarrhoea Prevention Camp,' every year. The camp is observed for two weeks with the aim of completely preventing children under the age of 5 from dying of diarrhoea. In our country, since 10 percent of the deaths of children under the age of five years are due to acute diarrhoea. In view of this, all the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in Coimbatore district will be Government Hospitals from July 18 to July 30."



The press release further stated that a two-week intensive diarrhoea prevention camp will be conducted in all Anganwadi centres, sub-centres and all Government Primary Health Centres. "This will completely prevent children under the age of five from dying of acute diarrhoea. An ORS packet will be given to families with 5-year-olds. This camp will benefit 3,37,107 people in the district. Parents, especially with children below five years of age are advised to go to the camp to avail a dose of the vaccine against diarrhoea," stated Dr P Aruna.
