The Corporation Commissioner has directed the concerned engineers to inspect Thiyagi Kumaran Street and repair the water pipeline in the area since the drinking water was being contaminated with sewage water, and to also ensure proper supply of drinking water.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Commissioner M Prathap personally inspected the cleanliness works and development works in areas under the Central Zone of Coimbatore Corporation, as well as the renovation works being carried out in Valankulam, Selvampathi and Muthannankulam under the Smart City Project on Monday.

Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar and the Corporation Commissioner visited Thiyagi Kumaran Street under Ward No.70 of Coimbatore Corporation Central Zone and inspected the premises. The CCMC Commissioner instructed the concerned engineers to repair the water pipes in the area and ensure a speedy supply of drinking water due to the discharge of sewage into the drinking water. After inquiring about the proper supply of drinking water to the public, he advised the public to segregate the garbage into biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste while handing it over to sanitation workers.

Subsequently, the CCMC Commissioner inspected the construction of the compound wall at the Corporation Middle School, Big Bazaar Street, Central Zone and instructed the engineers to complete the work at the earliest and put it to use. He then ordered the Health Inspectors to immediately remove the garbage dumped on the roadside in the Sullivan Street area. He also inspected the shops on Raja Street in the city's Central Zone to check if banned plastic items were being used and advised that yellow bags be used instead of plastic bags.

Subsequently, the Municipal Commissioner conducted a surprise inspection of the Urban Health Centre at VVM Nagar in the Central Zone and enquired about the treatment modalities being provided to the pregnant women there. Inspecting the ongoing work of laying a pipeline to transport drinking water to the overhead reservoir tank in VVM Nagar, Municipal Commissioner M. Prathap directed the officials concerned to complete these works expeditiously and in a quality manner and put them to use.

The Corporation Commissioner, M Prathap also inspected the Improvement works at Sanganoor Pallam on Mettupalayam Road under West Zone at an estimated cost of Rs.49 crore, as well as in Selvampathi, under Ward no.74. He also inspected the renovation works of the 'Kulam' at a cost of Rs.31.25 crore under the Smart City Project in Muthannankulam and the Smart City Project works at Valankulam in Central Zone at an estimated cost of Rs.67.86 crore. The CCMC Commissioner further inspected the works and directed the concerned officials to complete these works with good quality and in an expeditious manner and put them to public use at the earliest.

The Central Zone Assistant Commissioner Shankar, Councillor Sharmila, Executive Engineers (Jnnurm) P Umadevi, Hemalatha, Assistant Executive Engineers Ramasamy and Bhuvaneswari, Assistant Town Planning Officer Vimala, Assistant Engineers Thyagarajan, Sathyamoorthy, Savita, Health Inspector Dhanapal and Corporation officials were present during the inspections.
