Diana, who has been given special training in drug discovery, had been struggling with an illness of the kidney since 09.01.2022.
Coimbatore: 'Diana,' the renowned sniffer dog, which is an integral part of Coimbatore city's detective unit was buried on Monday after due police honours.
Diana was born on February 2, 2017 and was part of the Coimbatore City Detective Dog Squad. From July 1, 2017 onwards, the City Detective Dog squad was recruited and trained. From 01.11.2017 to 29.04.2018, Diana underwent training for a period of six months in drug discovery. Since 09.01.2022, the sniffer dog was used at the railway station and was working well at the airport and bus stand too but since 09.01.2022, Diana was suffering from an illness of the kidney.
Thereafter, Diana was undergoing treatment at the Government Multidisciplinary Veterinary Hospital in Chennai. Later, on 08.07.2022, the dog returned to Coimbatore after completing treatment at Vepery. At around 2 am, the detective dog 'Diana' died in the Coimbatore City Detective Dog Squad.
The post-mortem was conducted at the Government Multi-Disciplinary Veterinary Hospital in Coimbatore. Diana's body was kept on the premises of the detective unit office and was laid to rest by the police, led by top officers of the detective unit who thronged to pay their last respects.
