For the offence of rash and negligent driving, causing an accident and the death of a person, Justice Saravana Babu sentenced Prathap to 2.6 years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on him.
Coimbatore: Justice Saravana Babu sentenced the driver to two years, six months in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on him for causing death by accident near Peelamedu in Coimbatore.
Gurusamy hails from Peelamedu in Coimbatore. In May 2015, he was travelling on his two-wheeler near Peelamedu Periya Thottam. At that time, Prathap, who was coming from the opposite direction, was driving the two-wheeler at a high speed and hit Guruswamy. Gurusamy, who was thrown out in the accident, died on the spot.
The Coimbatore City East Traffic Intelligence Police registered a case in connection with the accident and were investigating. While the case was going on in the Coimbatore district court, the trial in the case was completed today and the verdict was pronounced.
