Tirupur BJP announces 'Selfie with Annamalai' contest to be held at Tirupur Chikkanna govt Arts College - College Principal denies granting permission

Responding to the posters created by Tirupur BJP circulating in WhatsApp groups of conducting a selfie event with BJP State President Annamalai at Chikkanna College, the principal of the college has clarified that the name of the college is misused and no such permission was granted to conduct the aforesaid event. BJP members entered into an argument with students and professors

Tirupur: With the BJP advertising that membership drive for the "Selfie with Anna" contest will be held in Chikkanna Government College, the principal of the college has now brickbatted the event saying that the event was not given permission to be conducted in their premises. The BJP members got into an argument with the college professors following the principal's statement.

During the argument, the students got into an argument with the BJP members.

The Bharatiya Janata Party's Tirupur North district women's wing is organising a competition titled "Selfie with Anna". The students who participate and win can take photographs with BJP state president Annamalai, join the BJP and come to strengthen the hand of the nation. It was advertised that the membership drive will be held today at two colleges - Chikkanna Government Arts College in Tirupur and LRG Women's Arts College on Palladam Road.

The principals of the two colleges, who came to know of the advertisement, said they had nothing to do with it. They said that the name of the college has been used without obtaining permission from them. The district collector had written to the Tirupur city police commissioner and coimbatore regional directorate of education and lodged a complaint with the police station.

In this situation, the BJP workers who went to LRG College on Palladam Road in Tirupur tried to campaign outside the college premises. Upon receiving this information, the college authorities did not open the front gate and sent the students out through the back gate.

The BJP members, who came to know about the incident, entered the college and got into an argument with the professors. Police reached the spot and insisted on opening the front gate.

The BJP then distributed pamphlets to the students who came out of the college and campaigned.

Some of the students had an argument with the BJP, alleging that they were being subjected to a situation where they could not come out of the school, alleging that they were being subjected to such disturbances during the examination.

While the BJP continued to campaign, the police said they should disperse on the ground that they did not get permission from the police to hold such a campaign event in front of the college. With strong opposition from the college students and administration, BJP members abandoned the campaign and left.
