'Edappadi K Palaniswami should become CM again for democracy to be restored again:' S P Velumani

S P Velumani reiterated that Edappadi would become CM again with AIADMK poised to win a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections ahead.

Coimbatore: Opposition whip S P Velumani who was at Chennai along with fellow AIADMK cadres to elect AIADMK's single leadership, returned to Coimbatore on Thursday. He was accorded a warm welcome at the Coimbatore airport by partymen.

Later, S P Velumani garlanded the statues of Perarignar Anna, MGR and Jayalalithaa at the Anna Statue signal.

From there, he walked to the AIADMK's Coimbatore District headquarters 'Idhaya Deiva Maaligai' and was greeted with a garland made of lotus flowers by party cadres, who also gifted him a 'Ponnadai,' and bouquets of flowers.

Speaking to reporters, S P Velumani said, "With the blessings of late J Jayalalithaa, the General Committee members elected Edappadi K Palaniswami as the interim General Secretary of the party, which was expected by the people. It was not only an uprising for the people of Tamil Nadu but also an event celebrated by all," he added.

"The people have decided that the AIADMK should return and hence everyone expected a single leadership. No work has been carried out in Coimbatore for the last one year. All the schemes that were brought in when Edappadi K Palaniswami and late former CM J Jayalalithaa were in power, should be brought back," reiterated S P Velumani.

"Everyone has decided that Edappadi should become the Chief Minister if democracy is to be restored. Now, I am thankful for the party giving me the post of AIADMK Headquarters Secretary. It was Edappadi who came up with all the projects that MGR and Jayalalithaa expected He will become the Chief Minister again and the AIADMK will win a landslide victory in the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections," added S P Velumani.

He further added, "As far as Coimbatore district is concerned, we (AIADMK MLAs and senior functionaries) will all work together." In response to a question on whether the leadership will accept those who were expelled if they wished to rejoin, S P Velumani opined that it was up to the apex body to decide.
