More than 50 people gheraoed the estate management and sieged the Labour Welfare Office after the estate management refused their request to grant part-time leave as the plantation workers could not work in the tea estate due to heavy rains.

Heavy rain is lashing in Valparai estate areas of Coimbatore district. The workers working in the tea garden are engaged in picking tea in the tea garden from 8 am to 5 pm.
Due to heavy rains the estate management may give leave or part-time leave to the workers. But the Akkamalai Estate tea estate workers have asked the management to give them part-time leave as they are unable to work in the tea estate due to rains.

As the estate management refused, around 50 people besieged the Labor Welfare Department office in Valparai.

Headed by Tahsildar, Valparai Municipality chairman Alagusundaravalli and 12th-ward Valparai Municipality Councillor Anbarasan talked to the estate management and agreed to give 3-hour holiday.
