Coimbatore: Two women were seriously injured at Mahalingapuram in Pollachi when a huge eucalyptus tree was uprooted by heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds.
Pollachi and surrounding areas have been receiving heavy rainfall for the last few days, along with strong winds. A 50-year-old eucalyptus tree in the Municipal Drinking Water Overhead Tank premises in Mahalingapuram area was uprooted in the rains and fell on the road.
Vanitha who works as a contract worker in the Municipal Office and Nandhini, an employee of a private bank sustained serious injuries when the tree fell on them while they were seeking shelter from the rain. Passers-by rescued the injured women and admitted them to a private hospital. Two-wheelers parked in the area were also damaged when the tree fell.
