Tirupur Corporation Mayor Dinesh Kumar said that the resolution was passed by the majority of DMK and its allied party legislators. He put an end to the issue by saying that it has been sent to the Tamil Nadu government for permission. This was followed by a council meeting.

Tirupur: There was a ruckus between AIADMK and DMK members in Tirupur district over the renaming of the old bus stand in Tirupur after former chief minister Kalaignar Karunanidhi.

Tirupur Corporation Mayor Dinesh Kumar presided over a meeting of the councillors at the corporation office here yesterday. In this, during the last assembly session, the old bus stand is being renovated under the smart city project. A resolution was passed to rename the renovated old bus stand as Kalaignar Karunanidhi Central Bus Stand.

The DMK and its allies party supported the move, while the AIADMK and BJP legislators opposed it.

In this situation, AIADMK councillor Anbakam Tirupathi had opposed along with other AIADMK and the BJP members in the last session. He objected to the fact that it was mentioned in the council resolution book that it had been passed unanimously and sent to the Government of Tamil Nadu for approval.

Dmk and Communist Party of India (CPI) legislators objected to this and got into an argument. This led to a commotion in the council meeting for some time.

Following this, Corporation Mayor Dinesh Kumar put an end to the issue by saying that the resolution was sent to the Tamil Nadu government for permission as the resolution was passed by the dmk and its allies by the majority of the legislators. This was followed by a council meeting.

During the previous regime, there was large-scale corruption in battery vehicles purchased to collect garbage in areas under Tirupur Corporation. Members of the Communist Party of India (CPI) demanded the appointment of a separate committee to investigate the matter.

The CPI(M) councillor requested the Mayor and Commissioner of the corporation to scrap the practice of the corporation administration alowing for parking vehicles on the roadside near the old bus stand in Tirupur.
