5 transgenders arrested for assaulting restaurant chef near Thudiyalur in Coimbatore

Dharmalingam, the chef, was beaten to death by five transgenders near Thudiyalur over a sexual dispute on August 8.


Coimbatore: Dharmalingam (45) hails from Pudukottai district and was working as a chef in a private restaurant in Thudiyalur area.

Two days ago, Dharmalingam was admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital with serious injuries, supposedly sustained in atwo-wheeler accident.

When Dharmalingam died on Sunday, the Thudiyalur police registered a case of a suspicious death. Subsequently, when an autopsy was conducted on the deceased Dharmalingam at the Coimbatore Government Hospital, it was revealed that he had been brutally beaten on his back, chest and abdomen. The suspicious death case has now been changed to a murder case and investigation has intensified.

During the investigation conducted by the police, it was revealed that on July 8, transgenders attacked Dharmalingam near Thudiyalur for sexual harassment reasons. He sustained grievous injuries in the attack and then died at the Coimbatore Government Hospital.

The Thudiyalur police then registered a case against five transgenders namely Racemika, Gauthami, Mamta, Harinita and Ruby who had assaulted Dharmalingam. They were arrested and later lodged in jail.
