Former AIADMK minister R B Udhayakumar has submitted a memorandum to the district collector seeking a direction to the Anti-Corruption Bureau to conduct an inquiry against the revenue secretary in connection with the sale of government land to a trust that runs a private school.

Tirupur: The Nanjarayankulam Protection Movement in Tirupur submitted a memorandum to the district collector.

Former AIADMK revenue minister R B Udhayakumar was involved in the scam in the sale of rs 50-crore worth of government land on the waterway on the banks of The Nanjarayan tank in Tirupur to a trust that runs a private school for Rs 1.5 crore. Former Revenue Secretary Atulya Mishra. Govindarajan and vijaya karthikeyan who was the district collector of Tirupur, should recommend to the Anti-Corruption Bureau to investigate. The Nanjarayan Kulam Protection Movement submitted a petition to the district collector's office demanding cancellation of the sale of land and the classification of water body poramboke and use it for nanjarayan bird sanctuary.

The Nanjarayan kulam is situated across the Nallar river, a tributary of the Noyyal river, spread over an area of 440 acres on the Uthukuli road in Tirupur. It was declared as the 17th Bird Sanctuary of Tamil Nadu by the Government of Tamil Nadu on 05-04-2022. It is home to 181 species of birds, 40 species of butterflies, 76 species of plants, 11 species of aquatic organisms, and 16 species of insects. The pond has been a place where exotic birds stay on the valasai route and has been around for more than 800 years. Till 40 years ago, the kulam was a major source of water for the people and farmers of the area.

At present, 9 acres of land worth Rs 50 crore from the bank of the kulam to the road has been allotted by the Government of Tamil Nadu to the Vikas Seva Trust, which runs the Vikas Vidyalaya School opposite the kulam, for just Rs 1.5 crore. The company is presently carrying out construction work by blocking waterways from the banks of the tank to the road. As the water seepage of the lake and the place where the water flows out of the two sluices, To make the area where aquatic organisms and birds live, the place where the area is inhabited by the water body, Without declaring it as part of the bird sanctuary, it was handed over to a private school at a throwaway price from the banks of the lake. This has shocked the people of Tirupur.

Therefore, it sought cancellation of the sale of land worth Rs 50 crore to the Vikas Seva Trust at a throwaway price. On the demand for classification of the said land as a water body and corruption in the sale of land, He also demanded appropriate action against former AIADMK minister R B Udhayakumar and other officials of the department. A petition was submitted to the District Collector on behalf of the public and the Nanjarayan kulam Protection Movement.
