Even as Muslims across the world celebrated Bakrid, Muslims in Coimbatore celebrated the festival with deep religious fervour by hosting special prayers across the city, as well as sharing food with the poor and needy.
Coimbatore: Thousands of Muslims offered special prayers in mosques on the occasion of Bakrid, embraced each other and exchanged greetings. Both adullts and children offered sweets to each other as an expression of love. Residents of GM Nagar in Coimbatore woke up early in the morning and participated in a special prayer program, decked in new clothes. They offered prayers for people everywhere to lead a healthy life and that all should live in religious harmony too.

After prayers, the Muslims offered sacrificial goats, cows, etc. as special offerings, and divided one part of the meat among the poor and needy, one part for their relatives and one part for themselves.
