Common man hit hard by rising prices of essentials -Citizens' Voice Coimbatore writes to PM

Citizens' Voice Coimbatore have proposed to the PM to convene a meeting with ministers of all concerned departments to derive at a coordinated action plan to curb price rise, thus bring some relief to a large majority of the population.


Coimbatore: A sharp rise in prices of essential commodities over the year, along with fuel have made life difficult for the common man, hence it becomes increasingly important for the government to keep a check on the prices, wrote Citizens' Voice Coimbatore' in a letter to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

"Not just the daily essentials like tea, oil, grocery, fuel even high-value goods such as building materials and services like travel are witnessing, steep price hike. While, we commend and appreciate the efforts taken by the government in bringing an end to the pandemic’s worst effects on the people and economy, we would like to bring to your consideration that this unchecked price rise has made life very difficult for the common man", the letter stated.

The city-based, Consumer Rights Organisation in their letter also pointed that Covid-19’s effect on the supply side has meant that wages have remained the same and unemployment is on the rise.

The price of rice, pulses, edible oils and other agricultural products have gone up substantially, even though farmers themselves are inadequately compensated for their produce. The net worth of India’s largest corporates have only grown during this period. The common man, especially the middle class is most affected by this crisis of high prices, noted the letter.

While the letter urged the government to step in and bring in an effective mechanism to regulate prices, the Citizens' Voice Coimbatore have also proposed to the PM to convene a meeting with ministers of all concerned departments to derive at a coordinated action plan to curb price rise, and thus bring some relief to a large majority of the population.
