Minister Ma. Subramaniam inaugurated the Tuberculosis and Cataract Detection units under the 'Varum Munum Kaapom' scheme in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: The Minister for Health and Family Welfare of Tamil Nadu, Ma. Subramaniam inaugurated the newly-constructed Government Primary Health Sub-Centre (PHC) at Kurumbapalayam in Madukkarai in Coimbatore.
Later, Minister Ma. Subramaniam inaugurated the Tamil Nadu Government's 'Varum Munum Kaapom' project camp in the Madukkarai block. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Ma. Subramaniam said, "1260 camps were conducted last year under the 'Varum Munum Kaappom' scheme under which over 9 lakh people benefitted. This year, 461 camps have been conducted thus far and 4,29,049 people have been benefitted. This Government is working toward making Tamil Nadu TB-free. Digital X-ray and facility vehicles have been purchased at a cost of Rs. 10.65 crore and TB-related issues are being detected and treated through these vehicles. Diagnosis of tuberculosis and cataract diagnosis by performing an eye examination is now made available. I am happy to inaugurate these two special units in Coimbatore and we will be providing them to the people in the camps" added the Minister.
Later, speaking to reporters, Minister Ma. Subramaniam stated, "A vehicle with a digital X-ray has been handed over to Coimbatore today. With this, tuberculosis can be detected at an early stage. Henceforth, in every 'Varum Munum Kaapom' program that takes place, Cataract will be diagnosed and treated and the diagnosis and treatment of cataract will come into effect from today. In Tamil Nadu, the insurance scheme is functioning in 1700 hospitals. Of these, 1,090 diseases are being treated at a cost of upto Rs. 5 lakh. Steps will also be taken to set up an additional centre in Coimbatore to buy insurance cards."
"Following the incident where a kidnapped child was rescued within 24 hours at the Pollachi Government Hospital, the District Collector has taken steps to install CCTV cameras at the Pollachi Government Hospital. Similarly, in Tamil Nadu, steps will be taken to install CCTV cameras in all Government Hospitals where integrated young infants are present. Also, the spread of Covid-19 is high in Tamil Nadu. However, 95 percent of those infected are undergoing treatment from home. Only 5 percent are being treated in private and Government hospitals. Only two deaths occurred due to Covid-19 in the last three months and that too due to comorbidities. I request the public to immediately go to the Government hospital if there are symptoms of Covid-19. With only 5 percent of the infected people coming to the hospital, it is unlikely that new restrictions will be imposed to control the spread of Covid-19. Since the Central Government has reduced the timeframe for the second dose of vaccination, we are going to instruct companies to take steps to administer the third dose of the vaccine, i.e., booster vaccination, to the workers working in small and medium enterprises," explained Ma. Subramaniam.
The Minister further added, "Hospitals like Apollo and Kaveri administer the booster vaccine at a cost of Rs. 386.25, and we have also announced a discount of Rs 150 on service charge. As far as AIIMS, Madurai is concerned, the design for the construction of buildings for the medical college is being prepared. Once it is ready, the construction of the new building will begin and it will take more than six months. This has happened due to the pressure exerted by Chief Minister M K Stalin. When we went to Delhi, we insisted on a new AIIMS hospital for Coimbatore as well."
