The water level of the Siruvani Dam has increased to 18 ft. due to the inflow of water into the streams.
Coimbatore: In the Western Ghats, with the onset of the southwest monsoon, incessant rains have lashed the reservoir areas of Siruvani for the last three days. As of 8 am on Wednesday, the Siruvan Dam area had received 66 mm of rainfall and the base had received 39 mm of rainfall. For drinking purposes, 10 crore litres of water was drawn,, while there is an inflow of water from small springs including Muthikkulam, Pambar and Pattiyar.
In a single day, the water level rose from just two-and-a-half feet to 18 feet. Due to the rains in the foothills which aided water flow from the hilly ridges, the inflow of water to Coimbatore Courtallam increased. From the Chithirai Chavadi Anaicut, 200 cusecs of water flowed into the canal.
Meteorologist Santhosh Krishnan said, "There will be rainfall in Palakkad pass and Western areas. It will rain intermittently till July 20. There will be inflow of water into the ponds and the water level in the dams will rise."
