Coimbatore: In a shocking incident in the city's Rathinapuri area, a man stabbed his wife and then hung himself to death.

The deceased has been identified as Bhupalan (27), a resident of Arumuga Gounder Street near Rathinapuri in Coimbatore. He is survived by his wife Shalini (26), a construction worker and two children. Due to a dispute between the husband and wife for the past two months, Bhupalan had gone to his hometown Sulur and worked from there. He reportedly visited Rathinapuri to see his children once a week and after seeing them and gave them money.

On Tuesday, Bhupalan visited Rathinapuri and was reportedly told by neighbours that his wife Shalini was in an illicit affair. He is said to have got into an argument with Shalini who then attacked Bhupalan. On receiving information of the tussle, the police arrived at the spot and offered to take Bhupalan to the hospital. But Bhupalan refused to go to the hospital and reportedly left the house. He is reported to have returned at 4 am on Wednesday to Shalini's house in an inebriated state and stabbed her with a knife. Shalini was rushed to the Coimbatore Government Hospital.

Fearing that his wife had died, Bhupalan ended his life by hanging himself in a room in the house. The Rathinapuri police were informed about the incident and immediately rushed to the spot and conducted an investigation.
