Due to excessive fog and rain near the Kavarkal area, a Government bus en route to Coimbatore collided with a truck carrying coal from Pollachi to Valparai.
Coimbatore: A Government bus en route to Coimbatore collided head-on at Valparai with a lorry carrying coal from Pollachi, due to heavy rains and fog. The police have registered a case and are investigating.
Even as the Government bus was speeding through Karumalai Estate in Valparai at 6 am on Sunday, toward Coimbatore, it reportedly reached Oomandi Madukku in Kavarkkal and due to excessive fog and rain, the vehicles coming from the opposite direction were not visible.
At that time, a lorry carrying coal from Pollachi to Valparai collided with the Government bus and the front portion of the Government bus was severely damaged.
Passengers in the bus had a narrow escape with minor injuries.
On information, the Valparai police rushed to the spot and are investigating the cause of the accident.
