Heavy rains lash Western Ghats near Pollachi; Aliyar Kavi Aruvi, Gopalaswamy Hill Falls flooded

With the onset of the southwest monsoon in the Western Ghats, the catchment areas of Kaviyaruvi have been receiving heavy rains.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore: Heavy rains lashed the Western Ghats near Pollachi and flooded the Aliyar Kavi Falls and Gopalaswamy Hill Falls.

Aliyar Kavi Aruvi near Pollachi is a renowned tourist destination in Coimbatore district with a large number of tourists from other districts and states thronging the place. Kavi Aruvi which is under the control of the Forest Department was closed to the public in January last year due to drought conditions and the Covid-19 pandemic waves.

But with the onset of southwest monsoon in the Western Ghats, heavy rains have been lashing the catchment areas of Kaviy Aruvi.

Due to this, Kavi Aruvi is currently flooded and tourists are now anticipating that the Kavi Aruvi will once again be opened to the public as a tourist spot.

Meanwhile, heavy rains since Thursday afternoon also led to flooding in the catchment areas of Angalakurichi Gopalaswamy Hill near Pollachi. Due to this, the Gopalaswamy Hill check dam was flooded too. Tourists are reportedly enjoying the lush waterfalls gushing from Gopalaswamy Hill, with many videos of the waterfall going viral on social media.
