All parties, including the Congress, the BJP, the AIADMK, the Communists and the Congolese People's National Party staged a protest against the opening of the liquor store on Somanur Road, following reports that the store would be reopened in a few days.

More than 200 people attended and chanted slogans against the liquor store.
The protestors said that the safety of women in that area would be in question if the bar was set up and that there would be more illegal incidents of violence if the bar was reopened again.
