The students were arrested by the police for refusing to agree to negotiations
Coimbatore: Protesters from the Students Federation of India (SFI) sat in front of a train in Coimbatore to protest against the Agnipath Scheme and a commotion broke out between the students and the police who tried to intervene and negotiate.

Various protests are taking place across the country condemning the Central Government's Agnipath Scheme and as part of these protests, over 40 students from the SFI entered the railway station through its rear entrance. They staged a sit-in protest in front of the Coimbatore-Nagercoil train which was at the station. Taken aback by the sudden protest, both the Railway Police and Coimbatore City Police tried to clear away the students sitting on the track.

But the students refused to cooperate and hence the police had to forcefully carry the protesters off the track. A tense situation prevailed at the railway station. Thereafter, the police negotiated with the students but to no avail and hence arrested them.
