Agnipath protest: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh calls off visit to Coimbatore

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was scheduled to attend a grand yoga program for the Indian Air Force and Border Security Force personnel at the Sulur Air Force Base in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: To continue celebrating International Yoga Day which was on June 21, yoga programs are being organised at various places in Coimbatore district. As part of this, a grand yoga program was scheduled to be held at the Sulur Air Force Base in Coimbatore for about 1200 Indian Air Force personnel and Border Security Force personnel.

It was reported last week that the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh would attend the event. Thereafter, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was scheduled to visit the Defense Department Exhibition to be held at the CODISSIAComplex on Avinashi Road.

Owing to the protests and railway strikes across the country in protest of the Agnipath Scheme announced by the Central Government, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's visit to Coimbatore has been called off even as protests escalate. He will also not be attending the exhibition at the CODISSIA campus.

Elaborate arrangements were made in the city for the visit of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar which have now been cancelled owing to the Agnipath protests raging across the country.
