Farmers in the area blocked roads to protest against the Forest Department's inaction in preventing wild elephants from entering agricultural lands.
Coimbatore: For the past 10 days, herds of wild elephants have been rampaging agricultural lands in areas like Thondamuthur, Narasipuram and Devarayapuram, causing undue damage.
Farmers have been severely affected due to the damage caused by these elephants on lands cultivating tomatoes, onions, bananas and coconuts.
The farmers in the area hence resorted to blocking roads alleging that the Forest Department had not taken steps to properly monitor and prevent wild elephants from entering agricultural lands.
The police are engaged in talks with the farmers since a Government bus has also been detained.
