The felling of trees and construction of the water tank in the main green site is against its original purpose as assigned by the LPA and is a matter of concern to the residents of Sivaram Nagar Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: Sivaram Nagar is an approved layout and every resident had contributed indirectly to the reserved sites in the area. That’s the reason this colony has a few reserved sites as lung spaces, unlike unapproved layouts. These lung spaces have to be used for the purposes for which they were assigned at the time of approval.
One such lung space is a park that was in use by all residents - elders and children among many others, for various activities like shuttle playing, karate classes, Independence Day, and Republic Day celebrations. It is a 40-year-old park spanning over 44 cents (approximate). The residents are emotionally invested in developing/ improving this park with their funds.
Suddenly, 10 days ago the residents were shocked to see the brutal felling of trees and the demolition of the entrance fencing in the vicinity of the park for the construction of a water tank.
In a meeting conducted by the Association on 17th June 2022, it was unanimously decided to raise objections via a demonstration to bring this matter to the attention of the concerned officials.
