Forest officials find decomposed carcass of leopard cub near Valparai

Forest officials found the body of a leopard cub in a decomposed state near the 1st tea estate section of the Karumalai estate near Valparai.

Coimbatore: Valparai forests are home to elephants, tigers, leopards, bears and deer. Tea plantation workers who were working in the 1st tea estate section of the Karumalai estate near Valparai complained about a stench in the area to Valparai forest ranger Venkatesh.

When Forest Department officials inspected the area, they found the carcass of a leopard cub near the tea plants in a decomposed state which meant the cub had been dead for several days. They took the cub to the Human-Wildlife Conflict Prevention Center. The Anaimalai Tiger Reserve Co-Director, ACF Selvam and forest doctors Sukumar and Ncf Ganesh examined the carcass of the leopard cub.

According to the Forest Department, the cub was male and six months old. The Forest Department said that the leopard cub had sustained serious injuries on its body and may have been attacked by a wild boar.

After the autopsy, the carcass of the leopard cub was cremated.
