'During the last 10 years of AIADMK rule, 75,000 workers were denied welfare schemes:' Minister C V Ganesan

Minister C V Ganesan emphasised that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu considered the plight of the workers as his own and has ensured workers did not have to protest by holding flags on the road.

Coimbatore: A function to provide government assistance to members of the Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board was held at the Coimbatore District Collectorate under the chairmanship of the Welfare Board Chairman Ponkumar.

Labour Welfare Minister C V Ganesan and Municipal Administration Minister K N Nehru were present at the function and provided safety equipment to the construction workers.

Speaking on the occasion, the Labour Welfare Minister C V Ganesan said, "The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu considered the plight of the workers as his own and has ensured workers did not have to protest by holding flags aloft on the road. Minister K N Nehru has been made the Minister of the Municipal Administration Department. It has been a year since the DMK regime and the workers have not had to meet anyone nor have they made demands. However, all welfare schemes are provided to everyone. I am also the son of a worker.

About 75,000 people have not been provided welfare assistance during the last AIADMK regime. But 50,000 people have been offered grants via their bank accounts within 25 days of the Chief Minister M K Stalin taking office."

"The Labour Welfare Department had done in 25 days what the AIADMK Government had not been able to do in 10 years. If there are any irregularities in the welfare schemes for construction workers or informal workers, they would be rectified immediately if they came to my attention or Ponkumar's attention. Previously, if anyone died, the money did not reach their family for five years post their death.

But now the officers are taking measures to make sure that the money reaches the appropriate parties immediately. Now with the current Government in place, the officials go to the affected party’s house to provide assistance,” highlighted Minister C V Ganesan.
