Almost Rs.14 lakh of welfare assistance provided to welfare board members at Coimbatore Dist. Collectorate

The Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board held a program to provide welfare assistance to welfare board members under the chairmanship of Ponkumar at the Coimbatore District Collectorate.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board held a program to provide welfare assistance to welfare board members under the chairmanship of Ponkumar at the Coimbatore District Collectorate.

The Minister of Labour Welfare C V Ganesan and the Minister of Municipal Administration K N Nehru provided safety equipment to the construction workers. During the event, Rs.13,82,49,000 worth of welfare assistance was provided.

Coimbatore MP P R Natarajan, Coimbatore District Collector G S Sameeran, Coimbatore Mayor A Kalpana and other Government officials. Addressing the function, the Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board Chairman, Ponkumar said, “Under the order of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, 3000 registered employees are being provided with job security equipment. When I was the Chairman of the Board in 2011, the Board had 32 lakh members and then after the last 10 years of AIADMK rule, the number has now come down to 13 lakh.

Since then, it has added about 6 lakh members during this one-year period. The reason for this is the initiative, creativity and encouragement of the Chief Minister. No welfare scheme has been initiated in the last 10 years. The DMK Government has increased the amount provided to road accident victims from Rs.1 lakh to Rs.2 lakh, Rs.20 lakh for marriage and the amount of maternity allowance has been increased from Rs. 6,000 to Rs.18,000." Ponkumar also stated that schools have been ordered to provide assistance to students from Class 6 itself.

"To provide a solution to what Perarignar Anna highlighted as the woe of the construction worker sleeping on the street, though his occupation was to build houses, following late Kalaignar Karunanidhi's efforts, his prodigy Chief Minister M K Stalin has ordered that registered labourers be provided with Rs.4 lakh to build houses.

So, people need to compare the last 10 years of rule with the one-year DMK rule to understand which regime is the best governance in this country, who will be safe if that party comes to power and under whose leadership the welfare of the workers will be protected,” highlighted Ponkumar.
