Indian National Congress party postpones intra-party election date three times in Tirupur: triggers sit-in protest

Gopi, who has been the Tirupur district president for the past 10 years, is currently facing a sit-in protest by more than 70 party workers at the party office, who claim that he is avoiding the polls in fear of losing his post.


Coimbatore: In Tirupur, three adjournments of the Indian National Congress election date have led to sit-ins inside the party office.

The Tamil Nadu Congress has announced the holding of by-elections in the Indian National Congress. Elections are being held in the respective districts accordingly.

Elections for the district, municipal and regional posts are to be held at the Indian National Congress party office at Park Road, Tirupur. Of these, 300 are vying for the respective posts.

Meanwhile, the election date was announced to be the 9th of last month. But Gopi, who is currently the district chairman, left the polls on the pretext that he was going abroad and the date of the polls was postponed to August 12.



Following this, a large number of party members came to the party office Yesterday.

More than 70 members of the party staged a sit-in protest against Gopi, the district chairman of the Tirupur district congress committee, for abstaining from the meeting and, meanwhile, claiming that Gopi, who has been the Tirupur district chairman for the past 10 years, is currently avoiding elections in fear of losing his post.

Meanwhile, the party has lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore district chief and Tirupur North district election commissioner Manohar. They say that the poll date would be announced in a day or two.
