Minister KN Nehru inspects Pillur - III joint drinking water project

Minister KN Nehru personally inspected the Pillur - III joint drinking water project worth Rs. 779 crores in Mettupalayam, Nellithurai Panchayat, Murugaiyan Parisalthurai, Marudur Panchayat, Thandiperumalpuram and Kattanmalai.


Coimbatore: KN Nehru, Minister of Municipal Administration, inspected the Bhavani River Water Supply to the Expanded and Newly Added Areas in the Corporation of Coimbatore under the Pillur - III joint drinking water project to Mettupalayam, Nellithurai Panchayat, Murugaiyan Parisalthurai, Marudur Panchayat, Thandiperumalpuram and Kattanmalai at a cost of Rs. 779 crores and the reconstruction work of the Sanganur trench at an estimated cost of Rs. 49 crores. He ordered the staff in charge to finish the work efficiently, without compromising on quality, and bring it to public use as soon as possible.

When he met reporters post-inspection, he said “As per the order of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, necessary advice has been given to expedite the development projects being carried out by the Coimbatore Corporation and the Tamil Nadu Drinking Water Drainage Board in the Coimbatore District.

Pillur is a major source of drinking water for the corporation. The Pillur - III joint drinking water project has taken into account, the population of the Coimbatore Corporation by 2035.

The project is being carried out at a cost of Rs. 779 crores. Construction work in Mettupalayam, Nellithurai Panchayat, Murugaiyan Parisalthurai, Marudur Panchayat, Thandiperumalpuram, Kattanmalai, and installation of drinking water pipes are in progress.

I inspected these works in person and advised the appropriate officials to complete them expeditiously. In Mettupalayam Nellithurai Panchayat, Murugaiyan Parisalthurai Area, Construction work of the Chief Pumping Station at a cost of Rs. 134 crore is in progress. Tamil Nadu Drinking Water Drainage Board Engineers have been instructed to complete the rest of the work qualitatively and quickly.



Following this, drinking water is pumped to the Marudur area, about 16 km from the Murugaiyan Parisalthurai area. In Marudur Panchayat, Thandiperumalpuram, as part of the Pillur Development Project III the 178 MLD Drinking Water Treatment Plant Design and Construction 60% completed at the cost of ₹104.900 crores.



The remaining works were advised to be completed soon and the quality of the construction work was also inspected. Following this, water is brought to Kattan Hill, about 16 km from Thandiperumalpuram.

Following this, the construction of a 900-meter-long tunnel at a cost of Rs. 62.00 crore in the Kattanmalai area has been completed. From here, drinking water is being brought to the Pannimalai Reservoir with a capacity of 146 lakhs and measures are being taken to provide uninterrupted drinking water to the public in the Corporation area. Officials have been directed to complete the work on the Pillur III drinking water project by March 2023”
