Coimbatore: The video footage of a lone wild elephant attacking a Forest Ranger on duty in Coimbatore two days ago, has gone viral on social media.
The elephant let go of the Forest Ranger only when other forest rangers exploded firecrackers along with screams. The forest official was later rescued by the Forest Department staff and sent to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the forest worker who was trapped by the elephant was Nagaraj, a hunting prevention worker working in the Madukkarai forest.
In the currently released video footage, the lone elephant is seen charging aggressively and the public screaming in fear from the terrace when it attacks Nagaraj.
Residents of the Perur Theethipalayam area have now expressed fear that the elephant may return to their dwellings and hence have demanded that the Forest Department camp in the area and engage in surveillance.
