Clash between college students in Coimbatore - Youth arrested for attacking chief constable

Police arrest and jail a youth who escaped after running over a Chief Constable with his two-wheeler during a clash between college students in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: The Police have arrested and jailed a youth who attacked an assistant inspector in Coimbatore.

It is learned that the final year private students had attacked each other at night three days ago at a ground near a Private College in Coimbatore.

Following this, the Kuniyamuthur Assistant Inspector Sinraj and Chief Constable Thirunavukarasu went to the spot and tried to stop the students.

Then, while the students were fleeing, ran over the Chief Constable Thirunavukarasu with his two-wheeler and fled. The Kuniyamuthur police had registered a case and were investigating.

In connection to this incident, a youth named Vignesh (26), son of Sinraj, from Machampalayam area of Sundarapuram was arrested.

At the inquest, Vignesh left to study for a diploma and has been working in a private company.

A friend of his was studying at a private college in the Coimbatore area when it was revealed that Vignesh, who had gone with Jagan from Machampalayam in support of one of the students during a clash between the students three days ago, had run over a police constable and fled to avoid getting caught by the police.

The police subsequently arrested Vignesh, produced him in court, and remanded him in custody.
