Coimbatore: Thandhai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) filed a petition with the Salem Divisional Railway Manager on behalf of all parties, demanding that action be taken to stop all trains at the Coimbatore North Coimbatore railway station.
A consultative meeting was held at the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Avinashi Road, Coimbatore, on behalf of the Salem Railway Department, chaired by Salem Divisional Railway Manager Srinivas. In this meeting, a petition was filed on behalf of all parties including Thandhai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam under the leadership of the TPDK General Secretary K. Ramakrishnan emphasizing various demands.

The Coimbatore-Pollachi wide railway line should be fully utilized, trains should be run from Coimbatore to the southern districts including Madurai via Pollachi, the special train from Mettupalayam to Tirunelveli should be made permanent, and railway stations including Pollachi Kinathukadavu should be connected to the Salem line and steps should be taken to stop all trains at the North Coimbatore railway station, the FIC coupon in North Coimbatore should be shifted to Irugur and trains from Chennai to Kerala should be diverted to the Coimbatore railway station via Irugur-Podanur.
Earlier, all parties, including the Dravida Kazhagam and TPDK, were denied permission to hold a consultative meeting. Following this, a protest was announced. Eventually, the protest was abandoned after the petitions were received.
