Father arrested for strangling his son who had drinking problems. The son died on the way to the hospital.


Coimbatore: Chakrai Thangam (61) hails from Vanjiyapuram, Shakthi Nagar area near Pollachi. His son Karthikannan (33) was an IT employee in Chennai.

He had gotten married before five years. His wife went through with a divorce due to his drinking problem. Meanwhile, Karthik Kannan had been living with his father at their family home in Vanjiyapuram for the past few months. In this case, Karthik Kannan, who came drunk yesterday, is said to have got into a dispute with his father.

During the course of the dispute, it seems that Chakrai Thangam strangled his son with the towel he had been wearing around his neck and pushed him on the bed, following which he fainted. At that time, those who were nearby took Karthik Kannan to the Pollachi Government Hospital. The doctors said he died on the way to the hospital.

Following this, the Kottur police went to the hospital, seized the body of the deceased Karthik Kannan, and handed it over to the morgue for autopsy. Also, a case has been registered in connection with the incident. Chakrai Thangam has been arrested and an investigation is underway.
