The Cheranmanagar park is being maintained by Ward No. 22 Councillor Kovai Babu with his own funds since the tender taken by the private sector had lapsed.
Coimbatore: In the Cheran Ma Nagar area under the 22nd Ward of the Coimbatore Corporation, a park had been set up by the Coimbatore Corporation near the 7th bus stop which is being widely used by residents of not only Cheran Ma Nagar but also the surrounding areas.
The park has ample walking space, gym facilities, various play equipment for children, toilet facilities and realistic statues of wildlife. The tender for the park maintenance which was with the private sector recently lapsed and hence it was announced that the park would be closed. But Ward No. 22 Councillor Kovai Babu stepped in and ensured the smooth maintenance of the park which was widely lauded by the public.
Coimbatore Corporation Ward No. 22 Councillor Kovai Babu said, "The park in Cheran Ma Nagar is well-maintained and functional. Every day, people of all ages, including the elderly walk and exercise, while children enjoy the play area. It was recently brought to my notice that since the tender period was over, the park will be shut until the tender was re-taken. I spoke about this at the Coimbatore Corporation East Zone Meeting and stated that until the new tender is taken, I would voluntarily provide the necessary financial assistance to keep the park running from my own funds for all activities, including the maintenance of the park and the salaries of the maintenance staff among other things. Although the park is functioning well, some work needs to be done such as the maintenance of the artificial fountain there, and renovation work on the park premises. The next bidder will be notified of these areas where some work needs to be done, some of the existing deficiencies will be removed and action will be taken to make the park functional without any defects,” assured Kovai Babu.
