Coimbatore: The West police station received a secret tip-off that a gang was smuggling banned gutka and tobacco items in a car with Kerala registration to a car with Tamil Nadu registration, near a private hall on Pollachi-Palakkad Road.
Following this, the police rushed to the spot and searched the cars. Banned gutka and tobacco products, along with Rs. 1,10,000 in cash without documents were found during the search. The police confiscated 375 kg of the gutka and tobacco products and the two cars used for smuggling.
Pramok and Manoj Kumar hailing from Mannarkadu, Kerala and intermediaries from Coimbatore including Kazhamaideen, Kumaresan, Mathiyalan, and Manikandan from Pollachi who were selling tobacco products, were arrested.
According to a preliminary investigation, the Kerala gang was smuggling tobacco products from Karnataka and selling them to shops in the Pollachi area of the Coimbatore district.

The value of the seized tobacco products is estimated at Rs.3,75,000. The police have registered a case against the six men and are continuing their investigation.
