The police arrested the youth and confiscated about 3 tonnes of ration rice from the auto being used for smuggling and handed over the ration rice to the Civil Supplies Division police.
Coimbatore: The KG Chaavadi police received a tip-off that ration rice was being smuggled from Coimbatore to Kerala, via Walayar.
Following this, the police including KG Chaavadi Assistant Inspector, Saravanan and Special Assistant Inspector Danasekaran raided vehicles near the Walayar service road.
When a rental auto was stopped and checked, it was found to contain bundles of ration rice. The driver of the auto was arrested and later identified as Rangan's son, Sivan (24) from Vattaparai, Palakkad in Kerala. It was also revealed that Sivan had tried to smuggle ration rice to Kerala by buying it for cheap prices in the surrounding areas of Coimbatore including Ukkadam.

Following this, the police arrested Sivan and confiscated about 3 tonnes of ration rice from the auto. The seized ration rice was then handed over to the Civil Supplies Division police.
