21 kg of gutka hidden at grocery store near KG Chavadi in Coimbatore; Shop owner arrested

Illegal gutka products worth Rs. 48,000 were seized from a grocery store near the KG Chavadi area in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: After a complaint in KG Chavadi area of Coimbatore that a grocery store was selling illegal gutka products, the KG Chavadi police raided the store and arrested the owner, and also seized 21 kg of gutka products worth Rs.48,000.



Badrinath (37) who hails from Kaliyapuram, next to the KG Chavadi of Coimbatore district runs a grocery store called Vigneswara Store in the same area. A complaint arose that gutka products banned by the Government of Tamil Nadu were being sold in his grocery store. Following this, the KG Chavadi police conducted a search at Badrinath's store on Thursday evening and seized 21 kg of illegal gutka tobacco products worth about Rs. 48,000 which are banned by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Later, the KG Chavadi police arrested Badrinath, produced him in court and remanded him in custody.
