From the beginning, Ramesh, a social activist had said that he had received various threats because of the provocation by Municipal official.
Coimbatore: Ramesh, who is a counselor in Thirumalaiyambalayam Ward 2 near Madukkarai, Coimbatore, had sought information under the Right to Information Act in 2019 regarding solid waste management in the Thirumalaiyambalaiyam municipality.
From the beginning, Ramesh had said that he had received various threats because of the provocation by the Municipal Executive Officer. Following this, the then Madukkarai police station inspector Thuyamani Vellaichamy, Vadavalli police station inspector Manivannan, and KK Chavadi police station assistant inspector Anand Kumar illegally entered his house at midnight and interrogated him.
Ramesh had lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission over the incident. The State Human Rights Commission has fined the then Madukkarai and Vadavalli inspectors Rs.25,000 each and Assistant Inspector Ananthakumar Rs.50,000 and fined three persons a total of Rs.1 lakh, post-investigation. It has also ordered departmental disciplinary action to be taken against them.
