Police arrest 17-year-old boy under POCSO Act in Coimbatore; Charged with baiting and sexually harassment of minor girl

The boy reportedly baited the girl through Instagram by promising to marry her and then took her to Palani and sexually harassed her.


Coimbatore: The police have arrested a 17-year-old boy under POCSO Act for baiting a 15-year-old girl through Instagram by promising to marry her. He reportedly took her to Palani and sexually harassed the girl. It was revealed that both teenagers had become fond of each other through Instagram, over the past six months. Following this, the two exchanged their cell phone numbers and began a relationship.

A few days ago, the girl who had left home had reportedly not returned home. Under great distress, the girl's parents lodged a complaint at the Thudiyalur police station stating that in spite of their best efforts to locate her, they could not find her. Following this, the police contacted the girl on her cell phone and spoke to her. The girl said that she was in Palani with the boy who was an Instagram friend. Immediately, on the advice of the police, her parents spoke to the girl and asked her to return home.

Following the instructions of the police, the duo who had eloped returned to Coimbatore and were interrogated by the Thudiyalur police. During the investigation, it was revealed that the boy baited the girl by convincing her that he will marry her and then took her to Palani and sexually harassed the girl at the hotel where they had been staying.

Subsequently, the police arrested the boy after filing a case under the POCSO Act for baiting and sexually harassing a minor girl . Later, he was produced in court and sent to a reform school. The girl was also sent to a rescue home for further counselling.
