Coimbatore: The Exemptions Unit, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry of the Income Tax Department celebrated 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' to mark 75 years of Indian Independence on Monday, May 30.
Saplings were planted at the IT Quarters’ premises at Siddhapudur, Coimbatore to mark the event and create environmental awareness among the public.
An outreach program 'Confluence to Ease Tax Compliance by Charitable Institutions' was conducted as part of the celebrations at the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Avinashi Road in Coimbatore. M Bhupel Reddy, IRS, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Coimbatore took part as the Guest of Honor. K Ravi Ramachandran, Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), Chennai delivered the keynote address, focusing on the 'Role of Charitable Institutions & CSR in Nation Building.'
G Saratha, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), Coimbatore made a presentation on the salient features of the New regime of Taxation of Charitable Institutions & Ease of filing ITR - 7, while C Balasubramanian, President, ICCI, M N V Palanisamy, Chairman, Coimbatore Branch Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and Mr. N Ravisankar, Chairman, The Auditor's Association of Southern India and G Ramasamy, former President, ICAIl also addressed the gathering.
The event was attended by the representatives of NPOs, tax professionals from the Coimbatore Branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, and The Auditor's Association of Southern India. An open house session was also conducted where the stakeholders showed great enthusiasm in discussions related to the new regime of taxation of charitable institutions and filing of ITR – 7, thus bringing out the true essence of the confluence to ease of tax compliance.
