"We are forced into a situation where wildlife damaging our crops is pushing us to commit suicide:" TN Farmers Association
Coimbatore: Various farmers belonging to the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association have filed a petition with the Coimbatore District Collectorate seeking permission to engage in euthanasia on wildlife since wildlife in Coimbatore areas have been causing extensive damage to their farmlands, thereby cutting off their main source of income and pushing them to end their lives.
"Farmers in and around the areas of Sirumugai, Karamadai, Mettupalayam, Periyanaickenpalayam and Annur have been cultivating for many years. Wildlife like elephants, wild boars, elephants, leopards, and monkeys among many others have been causing extensive damage to our farmlands. Having been subjected to great distress due to this, we seek permission to carry out euthanasia. We decided to mobilize the farmers affected by the wildlife in Coimbatore on July 5 and hold a Tamil Nadu-wide rally, and kill the wild boars with our own hands,” stated the distressed farmers in the petition.
