Coimbatore district Valparai area has been facing a shortage of drinking water for several months.
Due to the shortage of drinking water, dengue fever is spreading to the public by storing drinking water and using old water without using it properly.
Drinking water supplied on behalf of the municipality to 20,000 people living in areas like Anna Nagar Kakkan Colony, Children's Park Kamaraj Nagar, including Valparai Municipality, and has been facing water shortage for several months due to construction of new water tank.
Thus the general public is storing and using water that will cause water scarcity. In addition, stinking mosquitoes are being produced in the roadside landfills due to littering without proper disposal.
As a result, more than 30 people in the residential area of the children's park are being treated for dengue fever. In Valparai municipality, the public reports that the cleaning staff is not able to kill the mosquitoes by spraying mosquito repellent on the roadside instead of spraying the mosquito repellent on the public residential area.
The public has demanded that the health department bring in cleaning staff from the hospital to go door-to-door and spray mosquitoes and provide door-to-door inspections to prevent the spread of dengue fever.
Health doctor Babu Lakshmanan also said that water should not be stored and used, water should be boiled well and used to remove stagnant water in the area of houses, water storage bonds should be kept well sealed, and if there is a fever one should come to the government hospital for treatment.
