Tiruppur: SDPI members staged a train picketing strike in Tiruppur condemning the central government for failing to curb rising yarn prices.
The main raw material for the knitting industry is yarn and is the main industry in Tiruppur. The price of yarn has remained high for the past 20 months. The Union government abolished the import tax on yarn after repeated demands from industry.

Even after that the booking price went up without coming down. Several phase of protests were carried out on behalf of the industry and various organizations to control the price of yarn.
A protest was held in Tirupur today on behalf of SDPI condemning the central government for failing to control the price of yarn. More than 50 people chanted slogans urging the government to bring the price of yarn under control, pushed through barricades set up by the police, entered the railway tracks and chanted slogans against the central government.

Slogans were raised while sitting on the tracks for more than 10 minutes, raising demands including the immediate cancellation of the export of cotton and yarn and the detection and prevention of cotton hoarding.
