Thirumalaiswamy Ilango was born to Head Master E.P.Thirumalaiswamy and M.K.Saraswathy of Sulur in the year 1959 at the Iyer Hospital in Coimbatore.

This achiever lives in Coimbatore and he was nostalgic while talking about his grandmother, My atha Meenakshi was responsible for bringing up the family.

She had lost her husband at the age of 17 and in spite of being a single mom, she brought up my father well and he became the first graduate from Vellalore. Father was the first Head Master too from the same place. Her cow was her only source of income. Years passed and she continued to deliver cows milk to houses.

She used to deliver milk at an air force officer's house by 4 AM everyday without fail. The punctuality and honesty of my granny impressed the officer. He reciprocated by helping me and my four siblings get an admission in the Kendriya Vidyalaya those days. My brothers - Arulmozhi, Bharathi : sisters - Suganthi, Thilakavathi and myself came up in life because of her. I simply love to remember our days with her. The selfless lady used to give us ragimilk, ragirotti, ragivadai and ragikazhi often. The education at Kendriya Vidyalaya helped us to become IIT engineers and doctors.

I did my B.Tech in Mining Engineering at IIT Varanasi on full scholarship and it was my good fortune to be in Kasi for 5 years. Thereafter I did my one year management programme on full scholar from the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru. This was followed by a Masters in the University of Illinois Chicago on scholarship.

I used to teach for 20 hours per week in the USA during my student days. On completion, I joined AT&T in the year 1987and worked there for 25 years. I was fortunate to get 18 patents during my time in the historic company which averages approximately 1 patent a day."

Ilango got married to Anitha of Madurai in 1987 and couple got blessed with Tara and Rahul. " I am a single man now. I was afflicted by a stroke some years ago and I moved to India. I really miss my family. However I love being in my hometown Coimbatore.

Now I have defined my objective. I want to inspire the youth of India and want to make them innovative, creative in both science and technology. Recently, I conducted workshops at IIT Mumbai, IIT Varanasi and Tata Motors ( Mumbai ). I am available for free lectures and innovation workshops at schools, colleges and corporate houses in India.

The financially under privileged students can seek my mentoring and coaching in order to pursue careers in science and technology at zero cost to themselves. Nowadays my hobbies are writing English Poetry, writing movie scripts and travelling.

I am wheel chair bound but I hope to get back on my feet due to the prayers from everyone, " stated Thiru Ilango after attending a Pradosham Pooja at the Amirthakadesswarar shrine located within the residence of B.K.Rajasekharan of BKR Perfumery in Coimbatore. Thirumalaiswamy Ilango got his patents between the years 1987 and 2013.

" AT & T has a rich history in research and development. It boasts of 8 Nobel Laureates. It was founded by Alexander Graham Bell nd the company has over 10000 patents. Thanks to my education, I was motivated to discover something new all the time. On graduating, I discovered that computers were coming out and I wanted to shine in that field. This prompted me to go to the USA.

I became successful and it was possible to get 18 patents in the field of telephony, internet, computers and software. A patent is a' Kappeedu' (Tamil). The technical invention gives the inventor the right to benefit monetarily from his or her invention.

Anybody using the technology has to pay a royalty to the inventor. I advise parents and children to focus on education backed by skills for it will give upliftment. Always be positive and help others. Share your wealth and knowledge. Travel around like me. I have been to about 70 % of the states in the USA and in India. Over the years, I visited a number of countries around the world, " smiled Thirumalaiswamy Ilango.

The innovator is now building a house for himself in Sulur and hopes to spend time in Coimbatore and Sulur in the near future. He's religious man and keeps himself busy with religious trips a d cultural activities. He attends music and dance programmes, religious discourses, heritage programmes and art exhibitions. Recently he attended a heritage walk organized by the Indic Academy in Coimbatore.

Thiru Ilango's maternal grandfather R.M.Nagappa Thevar had been an entrepreneur with foresight. He had founded a plastic factory in the year 1960. Nagappa Thevar used to manage a bouquet of businesses which included a grocery shop, cement outlet, petrol pump and a bus service. Thirumalaiswamy Ilango is well attended to by K.Vidya and family in a marvelous manner.

" I began my life in the USA and wanted my siblings to be there. They reached the destination and are doing well. But, destiny brought me back to Coimbatore. I am pleased to be in my hometown. I participated in a Brahmavidya Workshop in Mumbai sometime ago. Its an ancient method which teaches one to live in a healthy and harmonious way. It tells us to focus on our breath and thought. Once we master the two, our life becomes healthy and harmonious.

A similar workshop can be arranged in Coimbatore if more than 20 people are willing to participate. I am also giving poetry readings and am available to do the same in India. Additionally I wish to emphasize that hard work, sincerity and honesty are the cornerstones of success. It was these qualities that were found in my grandmother and it had encouraged the air force officer to help us secure our education at Kendriya Vidyalaya. I can say that this trait triggered my success," added the positive Thirumalaiswamy Ilango.
