FunCity: Polygamy is a blessing?

This is to thank the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) for informing the Supreme Court of India, sometime back, that Polygamy is a blessing to women, not a curse and now it has declared that the triple talaq Bill violates the rights of women and snatches the right of divorce from men.

We men have been saying the same thing all through the centuries but nobody had listened to us. We endorse wholeheartedly the Board’s statement in the court that whenever polygamy is banned, illicit sex has reared its ugly head.

It is always a long drawn process to get a divorce from your beloved wife who washes the dirty linen in public. She will portray how mean you are to the children and how deceitful in marital relations. She will drag your mother into the issue and chastise her for begetting such a rogue-son and your friends will publicly sympathize with you while gloating over your discomfort in private. Now you don’t have to wait for the court to annul the marriage before you unite with your current darling.

Let me congratulate the men in India – that is Bharat – who have been very smart in dealing with their womenfolk. They have convinced them that men are their gods who are allowed to take two or more wives. From men’s point of view, what is wrong in men having a couple of wives slaving for them? Now who cares if polygamy is legal; it is divine.

They say polygamy ensures sexual purity and chastity because it eliminates unlawful mistresses. Men welcome such news: how convenient ! You can have a second woman without bothering about law and the courts. Your personal secretary can move in without much ado. Is it true that women outnumber men in the gender ratio, which means women have to share their men with others?

There are a good percentage of gay and bisexual men, and they will be happy to voice-divorce their wedded wives and take a member of their own sex to bed. The law can only stare at them and stand helpless.

The moral ills of society indeed can be cured by allowing polygamy, and the unlawful mistresses can be eliminated. Men are rendering a service to society according to the AIMPLB, which says polygamy is not for gratifying men’s lust, it is a social need. Hurrah!
