Sound is something that has become and innate part of our lives. It has become so much glued into our existence that we often choose to ignore it. But the sound, nevertheless, is one of the most important aspects of your life system that shapes your brain and even plays an important part in your evolving consciousness. Put in simple terms, sound waves can transform our brain and thus our lives. Here I try to find some interesting answers to some intriguing questions.
What is sound?
Sound is simply the energy produced when any form of matter vibrates. When objects move back and forth quickly, it produces vibrations, which can't be seen by naked eye, and in turn, forces the air around it to vibrate as well. The air plays the part of transporting the vibrations to your eardrum, which takes me to my next question.
How do we hear?
Sound waves travel through our ears and hits the eardrums, which in combination with the middle and inner ear convert the sound waves into electrical impulses, which are then sent to our brains.
So, how does sound waves shape our lives?
Hearing is special among senses, says, Seth Horowitz, neuroscientist and author of the book The Universal Sense: How Hearing Shapes the Mind. "Sound can travel a long way. It will propagate through anything — the ground, water. It works at night, goes around corners. Sounds give you sensory input that is not limited by the field of vision. You hear anywhere from 20 to 100 times faster than you see so that everything that you perceive with your ears is coloring every other perception you have, and every conscious thought you have." Sound gets in so fast that it modifies all the other input and sets the stage for it."
So needless to say, sound is shaping our perceptions in many ways. We need to pay heed to the sounds that we hear in our normal life. Just for a few seconds at least, cut away all your senses from the hustle and bustle of our chaotic lives and bark in the glory of silent vibrations that our universe creates.
